Mumbai — A new impotence advertisement just released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is sure to draw the undivided attention of meat-eaters everywhere. The ad shows a man sitting up in bed next to a woman while peering down at himself in utter frustration and carries the tagline, ‘Eating meat got you down? Get it up. Go vegetarian!’ The ad was shot by Dilip Bhatia who honed his shutter skills shooting layouts for Playboy magazine.

The thrust behind PETA’s new ad is research showing that artery-clogging cholesterol in meat and other animal products can play a key role in the development of impotence. Meat-based diets have also been linked to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and certain cancers, all of which can severely impede physical activity. Vegetarians are leaner and feel younger and fitter than their non-vegetarian counterparts, and that can mean they perform better and longer.

PETA are also concerned about the health and lives of animals cruelly raised and killed for food. Docile buffaloes and sheep and inquisitive, intelligent chickens do not deserve to be treated like inanimate ‘meat machines’, their bodies used and abused simply to satisfy an acquired taste for animal flesh.

‘Cholesterol slows the flow of blood to all your organs, not just your heart’, says Anuradha Sawhney, Chief Functionary. ‘We want people to use “veggie Viagra”—vegetarian cooking—in the kitchen for a spicy time in the bedroom.’
