Local Man Wins Nationwide Competition
Vijayawada – Nikhil Asrani of Vijayawada has beaten out nine other male finalists to win People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Cutest Vegetarian Next Door contest. The 24-year-old will be featured on PETA’s website and will receive a sash and a trophy. Nikhil is available for interviews. View his photo as well as that of the female winner here.
“Vegetarians get all the protein, vitamins and fibre that they need without the artery-clogging cholesterol and saturated fat found in animal flesh”, he says. “Not only are vegetarians healthy, every person who makes this choice also saves animals from spending their whole lives confined to cramped and filthy spaces, being maimed and beaten and ultimately being killed.”
“Nikhil is healthy, kind and caring, and that makes him even cuter in our book”, says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta. “Whether it’s to improve your health, fight pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions or save countless animals from the suffering and terror of factory farms and a slaughterhouse, going vegetarian is always a winning proposition.”
While the consumption of animal foods contributes to the risk of developing cancer, heart disease, obesity and many other killers, a plant-based diet can give us clearer skin and permanent weight loss, help prevent heart attacks and even reverse existing heart disease.
Kritika Punj Berry of Gurgaon is the female winner of PETA’s Cutest Vegetarian Next Door contest. Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count.
