Saharanpur Police Register FIR for Running Over Dog, Following PETA India’s Intervention

Saharanpur – Based on a viral video of a dog being run over by a car in Saharanpur, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India collaborated with a local activist – Dr Abhijeet Tomar and the Sadar Police Station in Saharanpur to get a first information report (FIR) registered. The FIR is against the driver, who can be seen honking, but instead of waiting for the dog to cross, runs over and kills the canine. The driver does not stop after running over the dog. The FIR has been registered under Sections 325, 115(2), 352, 351(3) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.

“This incident highlights the importance of responsible driving and stopping should an untoward incident occur,” says PETA India Cruelty Response Coordinator Sunayana Basu. “We commend the Saharanpur Police, particularly Shri Sube Singh, Station House Officer of Sadar Police Station, for taking a stand and sending a clear message that reckless driving and leaving animals to suffer will not be tolerated.”
