The person deemed by PETA India’s judges to have provided the most motivating reason for going leather-free will receive a MARA MMA Pawse canvas tote bag delivered straight to his or her door. Cattle in India have been filmed being marched across vast distances to the slaughterhouse. When they stumble and fall from exhaustion, their tails have been twisted and broken or chilli peppers smeared in their eyes to force them to carry on. Other cows and buffaloes are crammed into trucks that are so crowded that the animals are sometimes trampled or gored. At the slaughterhouse, animals’ throats are cut, often with dull knives, in full view of other cattle awaiting the same fate.
