Posted on by PETA

To help residents of Thulasendrapuram celebrate the inauguration of Kamala Harris as the first woman and first person of Indian descent to be elected vice president of the United States, PETA India has sent baskets of vegan biryani and Proteiz chunks from GoodDot, flavoured oat milk from Goodmylk, vegan sweets, and other tasty to every family in Thulasendrapuram, where Harris’ grandfather was born. The village panchayat and his volunteers will deliver the baskets on PETA India’s behalf and with joyous good wishes ahead of the inauguration.

PETA India promotes vegan eating because every person who goes vegan spares animals suffering and a terrifying, bloody death in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries. Chickens, cows, pigs, goats, and other animals killed for food are crammed into vehicles in such high numbers that many sustain broken bones, suffocate, or die en route to slaughter. At slaughterhouses, workers hack at their throats with dull blades, typically while they’re still conscious and able to feel pain.

Vegans are less likely to be afflicted with heart disease, diabetes, and cancer – all of which are widespread health problems in India – and are, on average, fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are. They also help prevent future pandemics: SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all came from confining or killing animals for food. And according to the United Nations, a global shift towards a vegan lifestyle is vital in order to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty, and the worst effects of climate change.

Harris has sponsored and supported legislation in the US against cruelty to animals and spoken out in favour of encouraging healthy eating habits and being aware of the effects of our food choices on the environment.

Note: PETA India supports animal rights, opposes all forms of animal exploitation, and provides the public with information on those issues. PETA India does not directly or indirectly participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office or any political party.
