PETA India Grants Award at IPSCON to Scientist Saving Animals Using Magnets
No animals, just magnetic appeal! PETA India presented an award to a young scientist at one of India’s largest science events of the year for her patented animal-free innovation.
PETA India scientists presented Khushboo Pathania, a PhD student and research fellow at Panjab University, with the award at the International Pharmacology Conference and 55th Annual Conference of Indian Pharmacological Society (IPSCON). The event brings together diverse experts in all areas of drug development and testing.
This year’s theme, “Empowering Young Minds,” perfectly reflected Pathania receiving this novel award. Her patented design uses tiny particles of iron and materials from plants to lift cells with magnets. This helps the cells grow more like human tissues.
Pathania’s 3D cell culture-based method has been described as eco-friendly and cost-effective. It can be used to study diseases such as cancer, test new medicines, and assess the safety of chemicals without using animal testing. Best of all, it’s completely free of components taken from animals!
