Everyone Can Help PETA India Choose the Most Alluring Veggie Vixen and Humane Hunk
Mumbai – The nominees had barely been posted for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2011 contest before Saathiya star Vivek Oberoi and The Dirty Picture beauty Vidya Balan started raking in the votes. Hot on their heels in the contest are Sonu Sood, Dhanush, Shahid Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Mallika Sherawat, Kareena Kapoor, Hema Malini and Ayesha Takia.
Says Vidya, “I am vegetarian. As a result, my metabolism has improved, and this is a huge contributor to weight loss.” And Vivek explains, “I realised I do not want to be hypocritical. … To turn vegetarian was a conscious decision.”
Celebrities including Mallika Sherawat, Lara Dutta and Sonu Sood often tweet about the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. Ayesha Takia recently tweeted, “Good time to go vegan if we want to save the planet”. Mallika also tweeted to her fans, “I [a]m a vegan”.
“From Bollywood to Hollywood, the world’s kindest and most gorgeous celebrities are adopting a healthy, humane vegetarian diet”, says PETA India’s chief functionary, Poorva Joshipura. “Our sizzling nominees’ compassion for animals means that they’re gorgeous inside and out.”
Not only are vegetarians less prone to obesity, heart disease and diabetes than meat-eaters are, they also save the lives of more than 100 animals a year. And a recent United Nations report concluded that a global shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.
The winners will be chosen based on the total number of votes each celebrity receives and other factors. Winners will be announced in January. For more information and to cast your vote, please visit PETAIndia.com.
