Kicking the Meat Habit Has 10 Men and 10 Women Sizzling With Passion and Compassion

Chennai – The competition to be named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Hottest Vegetarian Next Door is heating up, and two Chennai residents, either 22-year-old Vignesh Kartik of Kilpauk or 19-year-old Arihant Kothari of Chintadripet, may just take home the prize. That’s because they have beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across India to become two of 10 male contestants to advance to the final round. Two winners (one male and one female) will be crowned PETA’s Hottest Vegetarians Next Door and both will be featured on PETA’s website and receive a sash and a trophy. All visitors to PETA’s website can vote for their favourite finalists.

“On average, vegetarians are slimmer and healthier than meat-eaters are – and they save many animals a year from factory farms, slaughterhouses and fishing nets”, says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta. “One look at our radiant finalists proves that there’s nothing sexier than compassion.”

Says Vignesh, “By following a plant-based diet, you can rid your body of toxins, excess fat and bad cholesterol. Go green, stay lean”. And Arihant says, “Being a vegetarian is the best thing in the world. You can avoid dreadful diseases and help save our planet”.

In addition to causing animal suffering on a massive scale, eating meat and dairy products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer and obesity. Also, a United Nations report concluded that the meat industry is “one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global”.

The deadline for voting is 5:30 pm on 25 November. The winners will be named on 26 November.

PETA will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. The full contest details are available on
