Local Woman Wins Nationwide Competition
Lucknow – Allankrita Sarkar of Lucknow has beaten out nine other female finalists to win People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Cutest Vegetarian Next Door contest. The 23-year-old will be featured on PETA’s website and will receive a certificate, a sash, and a trophy.
Sarkar is available for interviews. You can view her photo and that of the male winner here.
Sarkar says, “I am a vegetarian since I was in class sixth [when] I saw a chicken being weighted down to cut at a nearby meat shop”.
“Sarkar is healthy and kind, and that makes her even more attractive in our book”, says PETA India Campaigns Coordinator Neerja Khede. “Whether it’s to improve your health, reduce pollution such as greenhouse-gas emissions, or spare many animals suffering and terror on factory farms and in slaughterhouses, going vegetarian is always a winning proposition.”
While the consumption of animal-derived foods contributes to a person’s risk of developing cancer, heart disease, obesity, and many other ailments, a plant-based lifestyle can give us clearer skin, help prevent heart attacks, and even reverse heart disease.
Vaibhav Upadhyay of Indore is the male winner of the competition. Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count.
