Chandigarh – For World Vegan Month (November), a plea from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has gone up in Chandigarh with the message “Chandigarh, Go Vegan. It is Easier than you Think!”, along with the image of a delicious-looking Rajma Chawal, a popular dish in Chandigarh, to drive home the point that vegan food is everywhere – including on roadside eateries.

The ad in Chandigarh is located at Sector 43 ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) bus stop and the copy of the Billboard Ad is available upon request.

“If you’re enjoying Chandigarh’s favourite dish, you’re already eating vegan, so why not make it a habit?” asks PETA India Manager of Vegan Projects Dr Kiran Ahuja. “In fact, most Indian vegetarian foods are actually vegan or easily can be. PETA India is encouraging everyone to make the easy switch to delicious vegan meals that protect our health and save animals’ lives.”

In today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, huge numbers of animals are raised in vast warehouses in severe confinement. As PETA India reveals in the video exposé “Glass Walls”, chickens used for eggs are crammed into cages so small they cannot spread a wing; pigs are stabbed in the heart as they scream; and on the decks of fishing boats, fish suffocate or are cut open while they’re still alive. And male calves are commonly abandoned, left to starve or killed because they cannot produce milk.

PETA India offers a free vegan starter kit to help everyone embrace vegan eating, which also reduces the risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity; helps fight the climate catastrophe by reducing greenhouse-gas emissions; and can even prevent future pandemics. COVID-19, SARS, swine flu, and bird flu have all been linked to confining and killing animals for food.

PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAIndia.com or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
