Hasee Toh Phasee and 1920 Actor Asks Fans to Relate to Who Is on Their Plate

Mumbai – After her sizzling appearance in the box-office hit Hasee Toh Phasee,Bollywood and Tollywood beauty Adah Sharma is now busy swimming with fish. In her brand-new People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India ad, she shimmers as a mermaid, relaxing in the ocean surrounded by her finned friends. The ad’s caption reads, “Try to Relate to Who Is on Your Plate. Go Vegetarian”. Through the ad, Sharma asks people to put themselves in the place of fish before putting fish flesh on their plates. The ad campaign was shot by ace photographer Gaurav Sawn. Sharma’s hair styling and make-up were done by Ayesha Wadiwala, and her outfit was designed and styled by

“Being a vegetarian gives you glowing skin, nice thick, lustrous hair. … It keeps you happy since you are not killing any other living beings. That’s the biggest benefit: you’re not a murderer”, Sharma says. “So think about what’s on your plate.”

Scientific studies confirm what marine biologists have been saying for years: fish feel pain, just as all animals do. An issue of the US publication Fish and Fisheries cited more than 500 research papers on fish intelligence. They show that fish have impressive long-term memories and sophisticated social structures, and an Oxford University scientist published research proving that fish learn faster than dogs. University of Edinburgh biologist Culum Brown says, “In many areas, such as memory, [fish’s] cognitive powers match or exceed those of ‘higher’ vertebrates, including nonhuman primates”.

Fish used for food can be impaled, crushed, suffocated or gutted, all while still conscious. Dolphins, turtles and other animals get caught along with “target fish” in nets, and their injured bodies are thrown overboard, where they fall victim to swarming birds or slowly bleed to death.

Sharma made her cinematic debut in 1920,and she also played second lead opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee. She made her Tollywood debut in the film Heart Attack starring opposite Nithiin.
