Education Projects Coordinator

Position Objective:

To promote kindness to animals among children aged 8-12 using PETA India’s humane education materials across India both virtually and in-person.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct workshops across India in-person and virtually for children aged 8-12 using PETA India’s humane education materials including Compassionate Citizen, Ellie the animatronic elephant and other materials.
  • Liaise with schools and volunteers to conduct workshops for schoolchildren and/or teachers.
  • Help develop and update PETA India’s humane education materials when assigned, and identify needs for such updates.
  • Build and maintain a database of private and government schools for outreach.
  • Train and build a strong network of volunteers and NGOs to work with to promote humane education using PETA India’s materials and take suitable steps to ensure quality control.
  • Conduct research and develop a strong understanding of the Indian education system to suggest new opportunities for PETA India’s school outreach program.
  • Keep abreast of new ways children are learning so that PETA India can stay on top of trends with its programs.
  • Identify events and opportunities to promote humane education and animal rights for PETA India such as school festivals, parent-teacher meets and other places where teachers, parents, or children gather.
  • Meet with and influence school board and government officials to get humane education included in the official school curriculum, as assigned.
  • Work with PETA India’s online marketing team and other teams as required to publicize PETA India’s humane education work.
  • Prepare and maintain a detailed timeline and agenda for tasks, workshops and events.
  • Create thorough notes after all events and activities to submit to the Manager of Education and Outreach and the Director of PETA India, including what went well, and what we can improve for next time.
  • Work to make young people and educators excited about animal rights through regular online and offline interaction.
  • Explore, consider and recommend other outreach opportunities for children aged 8-12 by keeping abreast of television and online programs, magazines and other media consumed by young people and making recommendations for PETA India’s involvement.
  • Take active part in brainstorming meetings to advance PETA India’s humane education agenda.
  • Manage department related inventory
  • Act as a media spokesperson upon request
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field
  • Fluency in English and Hindi
  • Fluency in other languages a plus
  • Minimum two years’ relevant experience
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA India campaigns
  • Public speaking experience
  • Knowledge of and interest in the Indian education system
  • Proven excellent relationship-building skills and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to focus on both team and individual goals
  • Proven exceptional organisational and time-management skills
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
