Rest in Peace, Lucky. Join Us in Calling for Stronger Punishments for Animal Abusers

Posted on by PETA

The sad demise of Lucky, the dog who was thrashed – ultimately to death – for seeking shelter from the rain, is a reminder of the need for stronger penalties for animal abusers under the law. Punishments under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the main animal protection legislation, are light. Currently, people convicted of crimes against animals often get away with paying only a paltry Rs 50 fine.

Kind people across the nation have been horrified by Lucky’s story. Many, including celebrities, expressed their concerns on social media, and more than 150,000 people joined us in an online appeal for stronger punishments for cruelty to animals.

Please join us now in calling for stronger penalties so no other dogs die in pain like this.
