Advocacy Officer

Position Objective:
To advance PETA India’s cutting-edge campaigns and help bring about positive policy-level changes in favour of animal protection

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and execute projects to stop industrial and other types of animal abuse
  • Regularly update and maintain project-related agendas, timelines, contacts, and files
  • Conduct in-depth research for analysis and use in helping to advance projects, including by filing right to information applications
  • Meet with policymakers about various issues related to projects and encourage positive changes
  • Assist by taking part in inspections, organising awareness drives, giving talks, or taking other actions as required
  • Work with local volunteers and other departments of the organisation to advance project objectives
  • Work with the relevant department to generate media coverage, including by making follow-up calls and preparing media statements, and act as a media spokesperson when requested
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the manager


Minimum two to three years


  • Must be at least a graduate in any discipline
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Hindi and English (other languages a plus)
  • Previous advocacy and negotiation experience preferred
  • Previous public speaking experience preferred
  • Proven ability to work with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Proven thorough knowledge of all animal rights issues
  • Outgoing and personable manner
  • Must be reliable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Excellent research skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Support for PETA India’s philosophy and the ability to advocate professionally for PETA India’s positions on issues
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
