Human Resources Manager

To plan, organise, develop, implement, and manage HR programmes and practices

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop HR planning strategies with the CEO and department managers by considering immediate and long-term staff requirements
  • Work to ensure compliance with the policies, objectives, standards, and requirements communicated by PETA India staff
  • Recruit new staff members when required by preparing job descriptions and job advertisements and deciding how best to advertise in consultation with the CEO or relevant department heads
  • Shortlist applicants for interviews using a variety of selection techniques
  • Conduct preliminary interviews with shortlisted candidates and conduct hiring negotiations for prospective PETA India employees
  • Create, update and execute new employee orientation and basic training
  • Propose, publish, and administer HR policies and design HR forms
  • Advise on pay, appraisal, and other issues, including promotion and benefits
  • Maintain HR records and files, including by managing the HR database
  • Be knowledgeable about, interpret, and advise on employment legislation
  • When needed, develop and implement policies on a variety of workplace issues, including disciplinary procedures, absence management, working conditions, performance management, and equal opportunities
  • Maintain a dependable attendance and leave record system
  • Listen to grievances and implement disciplinary procedures while working alongside relevant management staff
  • Analyse training needs in conjunction with department managers, then plan and supervise training sessions, including staff inductions
  • Stay current on recent central, state, and case law changes and monitor labour-law updates for changes that affect HR
  • Take responsibility for labour relations for all employees of PETA India
  • Represent PETA India to governmental and non-governmental agencies on HR-related matters
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor


  • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years of HR experience
  • Managerial experience in HR
  • Extensive working knowledge of Indian labour laws and central and state regulations
  • Excellent working knowledge of compensation strategies and programmes
  • Knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA India campaigns
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Willingness and ability to travel between PETA India offices when needed
  • Support for PETA India’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for PETA India’s positions on issues professionally
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
