THE LAW, ANIMALS AND YOU

Learn the laws and take action to help animals!
(adapted from the Indian laws section of Indiatimes.com)

The law, properly used, can be your most effective weapon against animal exploitation. India has one of the most comprehensive sets of animal protection laws in the world. Detailed codes of conduct govern our use and treatment of animals, both domestic and ‘wild’.

In fact, India is unique. Unlike other countries, our nation recognizes animals in our constitution, and every citizen is required to show compassion to all living beings. Despite the importance accorded to animal protection by our founding fathers, animal protection laws are often disregarded.

Learn how you can help increase the penalty for animal abuse and help animals in other ways.

Note 1: While PETA usually refer to humans as ‘guardians’ of animals, for clarity’s sake we have used the term ‘owners’ in this section.
