The animals at the Kanpur Zoo are having a terrible summer, according to news reports. Sewage water is collecting inside the zoo, and approximately 300 animals outside of the enclosures are drinking the contaminated water - a serious health hazard.

In summer, the Nawabganj Lake’s water level drops, causing sewage to become concentrated with toxic waste from Shardanagar, Indupuri and Vikasnagar. The water, which is slowly poisoning the animals, must be diverted out of the zoo.

You Can Help

Please ask the divisional commissioner of Kanpur to ensure that the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) begins diverting the sewage water out of the zoo at once.

Mr Mohd Haleem Khan, IAS
Divisional Commissioner
8/4, Arya Nagar
Commissioner Camp Office
Kanpur
Tel: 0512-2294441
Fax: 0512-2214258

Urge the KDA to ensure that they are taking immediate action to stop the flow of the contaminated water inside the Kanpur Zoo to alleviate the suffering of the animals.

Lying on the hard steel floors of the freight train, adult cows and buffalo and calves alike are bound to poles with very short ropes. The poles are loudly driven in while the animals are being loaded, further frightening them.
