Switching to a Healthy Plant-Based Diet Is the Formula for Fitness, Says PETA

New Delhi – Wearing sexy grid-girl dresses and holding signs that read, "Formula for Fitness – Go Vegan!" members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India will accompany PETA's chicken mascot to greet Delhiites in the lead-up to the Formula 1 race weekend at India Gate lawns. The pit princesses' point? That the best thing racing enthusiasts can do to get up to speed with their health is jettison meat and dairy products from their diet and go vegan.

"Our bodies need the best fuel to become strong and to help us live long, and that means going vegan", says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta. "Shifting away from unhealthy meat and dairy products helps protect the environment, saves animals' lives and helps keep your body running at peak performance."
Consumption of meat and other animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, strokes and cancer. Also, the cholesterol and animal fat in meat, eggs and dairy products slow the flow of blood to all the body's organs and can increase the risk of impotence. And it isn't just men who should fuel up on veggies. The landmark US-based Nurses' Health Study of 18,000 women found that women who replaced animal protein with vegetarian protein sources lowered their risk of ovulatory infertility by more than 50 per cent.
Besides being a leading cause of water pollution, land degradation and climate-changing greenhouse-gas emissions, eating meat is murder on animals. In today's industrialised meat and dairy industries, chickens have their throats cut while they're still conscious, fish are suffocated or cut open while they're still alive on the decks of fishing boats and newborn calves are traumatically torn away from their mothers within hours of birth.
