Mumbai – He hails from the UK, Bipasha Basu can be
spotted in his music video "Stolen" and his new single, "I'm All
Yours", featuring Pitbull is tearing up the dance floors. And now rapper Jay
Sean has joined forces with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
(PETA) India in a brand-new ad that aims to ease the tragic homeless dog and
cat crisis. In the ad, Jay Sean is decked out in denim and standing next to
rescued mutt Stella. The caption reads, "Adopt – Don't Buy", and the
ad goes on to explain that animal shelters are overflowing with cats and dogs
and that countless more are barely surviving on the streets. All are in dire
need of adoption. The ad was shot by JSquared Photography at their Los
Angeles studio, and his make-up was done by Chantal Moore for Cloutier Remix.
Jay Sean – who is also a songwriter, record producer
and fur foe – took time out of his whirlwind schedule to sit down for this
interview (download broadcast quality: http://petaav.com/4broadcast/jay_sean_PAL.htm):
"[U]p until I had a dog, I didn't realise the connection you actually
have, that I have, with animals. … And you realise that just because they're
animals, you can't treat them any less than you would a human being." He
adds, "[P]arents might not know that they can go to a shelter to adopt one
rather than going to a store to buy one.… You know that they've had their
vaccinations and have been neutered … so they go through all those checks
before you even get them".
Across India, stray dogs and cats struggle
to survive on the streets. Many of them starve to death or are injured, hit by
vehicles or abused. Countless others are left to languish in animal shelters
because there aren't enough good homes for them. PETA India and Jay Sean want
people to know that they can bring joy into the life of a homeless dog or cat –
and into their own lives – by adopting a lovable and loving homeless
animal. And in order to take a bite out of the homeless-animal crisis, PETA
India encourages everyone to have their animal companions sterilised.
Jay Sean joins Bollywood celebrities Imran Khan, Dino
Morea, Gulshan Grover and Trisha Krishnan, who have appeared in ads to promote
the adoption of homeless dogs for PETA.
