Pakistani Beauty Advises Fans to Do Themselves a Favour and Kick the Meat Habit
Mumbai – Looking ravishing in a seductively assembled blouse and posing next to the words “I Am Veena Malik, and I Am a Vegetarian”, sultry Pakistani actor Veena Malik appears in a brand-new ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India to be released in October, which is celebrated as Vegetarian Awareness Month around the world.
“Going vegetarian is one of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made”, says Malik, who won her first Lux Style Award in 2007 for being the most stylish celebrity on the red carpet. “I feel better, I’m healthier and I have the satisfaction of knowing that my food choices also help protect animals and the environment.”
Last October, Malik appeared in the Indian television reality show Bigg Boss and was one of the final six contestants. In February 2011, she served as captain of her team on the Cricket World Cup reality show Bigg Toss and faced off against Rakhi Sawant and her team. Malik will soon mark a milestone in her career when she makes her Bollywood debut in the film Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai.
Vegetarians are, on average, fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters are, so the best thing that people who want to look their best can do is to keep meat off their plates. Also, vegetarians are less likely to be afflicted with heart disease, diabetes and cancer – all of which are major health problems in India.
Going vegetarian is also the kindest gift that you can give Mother Earth. A recent UN report concluded that a global shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. And, of course, meat is murder on animals. Every vegetarian saves the lives of approximately 100 animals each year.
Malik joins a growing list of actors, athletes and other celebrities – including Lara Dutta, Shahid Kapoor, Pankaj Advani, Anil Kumble, Amrita Rao, R Madhavan, Murali Kartik, Rahul Sharma and Monica Dogra – who have starred in pro-vegetarian ads for PETA India.
