Local Woman Wins Nationwide Competition
Nellore – Ishita Jain of Nellore has beaten out nine other female finalists to win People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Cutest Vegetarian Next Door contest. The 24-year-old will be featured on PETA’s website and will receive a certificate, a sash, a trophy, a vegan starter kit and a “Glass Walls” DVD. Ishita is available for interviews. You can view her photo, as well as that of the male winner, here.
Ishita says, “I have been a vegetarian all my life. … I don’t want to kill someone just for taste”.
“Ishita is healthy and kind, and that makes her even more attractive in our book”, says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta. “Whether it’s to improve your health, fight pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions or save countless animals from the suffering and terror they endure on factory farms and in slaughterhouses, going vegetarian is always a winning proposition.”
While the consumption of animal-derived foods contributes to a person’s risk of developing cancer, heart disease, obesity and many other ailments, a plant-based diet can give us clearer skin, help prevent heart attacks and even reverse existing heart disease.
Abhijit Waghmare of Ahmednagar is the male winner of the competition. Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count.
