Local Man Wins Nationwide Competition
Ahmednagar – Abhijit Waghmare of Ahmednagar has beaten out nine other male finalists to win People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s Cutest Vegetarian Next Door contest. The 24-year-old will be featured on PETA’s website and will receive a certificate, a sash, a trophy, a vegan starter kit and a “Glass Walls” DVD. Abhijit is available for interviews. You can view his photo, as well as that of the female winner, here.
Abhijit says, “There are so many reasons why I love being vegetarian”. He believes that nature intended for humans to live this way.
“Abhijit is healthy and kind, and that makes him even more attractive in our book”, says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta. “Whether it’s to improve your health, fight pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions or save countless animals from the suffering and terror they endure on factory farms and in slaughterhouses, going vegetarian is always a winning proposition.”
While the consumption of animal-derived foods contributes to a person’s risk of developing cancer, heart disease, obesity and many other ailments, a plant-based diet can give us clearer skin, help prevent heart attacks and even reverse existing heart disease.
Ishita Jain of Nellore is the female winner of the competition. Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count.
