Maharaja Shahaji Chattrapati Zoo

Kolhapur, Maharashtra
July 2005

  • No stand-off barriers were present to keep people a safe distance away from the animals.
  • The wall that keeps all the animals inside was only 4 feet high, making it easy for visitors to touch the animals.
  • Rabbits were housed in a barren enclosure, and old food was strewn all over the floor.
  • No signboards or educational materials were available.

This fence does not adequately keep people away from the animals.
Spotted deer, gazelles, black bucks, antelopes, emus, geese and peacocks are all kept together.
The rabbits (in the background) are kept in a bare-mesh cement enclosure.
