Sandip and Jesse Call for a Ban on ‘Joyrides’

Posted on by PETA

World-renowned dancers and PETA’s longtime pals, Sandip Soparrkar and Jesse Randhawa have stepped forward to help horses who are forced to pull heavy carriages for “joy rides” in Mumbai.

The celebrity couple was so upset after reading an account in Mid Day of the collapse of an exhausted horse at Nariman Point that they fired off a letter to the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, Subodh Kumar, asking him to ban the cruel carriages from city streets.

The duo wrote, “Dancers and models know all too well what it is like to push our bodies to their limits, but we can choose for ourselves when to work hard and when to stop and rest. Horses required to pull carts have no such choice; they are regularly pushed beyond the point of complete fatigue.”

Celebrities Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Bagheri, John Abraham and Hema Malini have also spoken out against cruelty to horses in Mumbai. Please join them in calling for a ban on cruel horse-drawn carriages.
