Stop Cruel Transport and Slaughter

Sample Letter to the Minister of Agriculture:

[DATE]

The Honourable Ajit Singh
Minister of Agriculture
Room No. 120, Krishi Bhawan
New Delhi 110 001

Dear Mr Minister:

I am writing to request that your ministry kindly begin much-needed reforms that would alleviate the suffering of animals in transport and slaughter by picking market-transport-slaughter units in various states to improve with regard to animal welfare. Please also work with state governments to stop the illegal abuse of animals in these areas.

I also request that you support an update of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 that would ensure that the current weak and outdated penalties for animal cruelty are increased. This would give the police, animal welfare officers and the public the power needed to enforce animal protection laws and to help stop unnecessary abuse in transport and slaughter.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PO Box 28260, Juhu, Mumbai 400 049) is ready to work with your office in this regard.

Respectfully yours,

[YOUR NAME]
