Home > Action Alerts > Stop Cruel Transport and SlaughterIt is illegal to beat, kick or overload animals; transport animals in vehicles that cause suffering; deprive animals of food, water and shelter; sell abused animals or kill an animal in an inhumane manner. The transport and slaughter of cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats and other animals in India violate all these laws, yet abuses are rampant. Bribes encourage police officers, politicians, veterinarians and other officials to look the other way.
Urge the Minister of Environment and Forests to work with state governments to ensure that they are taking immediate action for animals who suffer in transport and slaughter and to take steps to increase the current weak and ineffective penalty for cruelty. The suffering animals cannot afford to wait another day. For a sample letter, click here.
Ask the minister of agriculture to choose market-transport-slaughter units in various states to reform with regard to animal welfare and to demand that state governments stop illegal abuse of animals in transport and slaughter. Also encourage him to support stricter penalties for animal cruelty. For a sample letter, click here.
Send a polite letter to the Union Minister of Surface Transport to stop cruel overcrowding and to help bring about stricter penalties for inhumane treatment of animals in transport. For a sample letter, click here.
Take the three humane promises no meat, no milk, no animal products to prevent animal suffering, to safeguard your health, to protect the environment, and to help alleviate world hunger. Encourage others to do so as well by writing a letter to the editor of your local newspapers. Write to PETA for more ways to get involved. |
