Like similar globe-sweeping bugs, including avian influenza and the porcine flu, SARS is believed to have sprung from factory farms, where animals are kept in rancid conditions that allow diseases to spread like wildfire. In addition, animals on factory farms commonly carry listeria, salmonella, leukosis (chicken cancer), campylobacter, and E. coli bacteria, all transmissible to humans.
The battle against SARS and other diseases begins with your fork, says Anuradha Sawhney, Chief Functionary. Rejecting meat means rejecting filthy animal farming practices that cause outbreaks of influenza as well as heart attacks, cancer, and strokes.
